Spotlight on Hemp Seed oil

Hemp Plant
Depending on what era you come from you may have a preconceived notion of what "Hemp" means.
I live in Colorado so we are very fond of our hemp clothing and to be called a "Hippie" is a compliment!
I chuckle because I keep trying to tell my better half that the products we make that contain  hemp don't have Marijuana in them, but I still think that he has this image of me down at the pot dispensary getting supplies. LOL Could you just imagine!

So let's talk about Hemp for a minute and why its AWESOME!

How you get it:
Hemp oil or hempseed oil is obtained by pressing hemp seeds. Cold pressed, unrefined hemp oil is dark to clear light green in color.

What it does for our skin:
Hemp seed oil replenishes our (EFA'S-" That's geek speak for Essential fatty acids"), which helps our skin hold moisture, making it a natural humectant. The effectiveness of our barrier function is what determines the moisture level of our skin, thus the health, softness and smoothness. Essential Fatty Acids (EFA'S) specifically Omega 6, Omega 3 and Omega 9 preserve this barrier.
Hemp seed oil is made up of 80% essential fatty acid, the highest amount of any other plant. Hemp seed oil prevents moisture loss on a physiological level; it does just not merely "coat" the skin as do other oils. It contains the ideal ratio of Omega 6 to Omega 3 based on our cells needs. Hemp so closely matches our own skins lipids it is able to penetrate inside our cells and lubricate the surface between them, thus bringing the EFA's within our body. For this reason EFA's have been proven to play a preventative role in skin aging and a healthy moisture balance.
Not only does Hemp seed oil contribute greatly to the barrier function and appearance it also has other skin benefits such as offering relief to acne, minor abrasions, psoriasis and eczema. Hemp is also the only plant oil containing Vitamin D, which is necessary for Calcium absorption, especially useful to vegans. Using Hemp seed oil is a great way to achieve soft, smooth and hydrated skin. Sound good?
So what do I offer that has this amazing oil in it?
My new favorite soap Western Hemp
I love this bar! Huge fluffy lather and so moisturizing and my extra special ingredient Pure Tussah Silk! This may actually be one of my best!

And My Robins Wrinkle Cream (of course i'm putting hemp in that one!)
Both of these are available on line at www.zoelifenaturalproducts and in my store.

So a few funny factoids to close my post today.
  1. George Washington and Thomas Jefferson grew hemp.
  2. Ben Franklin started one of the first paper mills that made hemp paper.
  3. Lipton Tea has been using hemp in their tea bags forever.
  4. The original Colonies were required to grow hemp for the British Navy.
  5. Jefferson drafted the Declaration of Independence on hemp paper.
  6. Betsy Ross sewed the first American Flag with hemp cloth.
HAVE A GREAT WEEK!
